#2128: ByteDance New Grad SWE Level

Are new grads able to get swe level 2-1 in bytedance, or only 1-2? If so, what are the requirements? Returning interns? Masters?

Based on https://www.levels.fyi/?compare=ByteDance,Google,Facebook&track=Software%20Engineer, it seems like 1-2 maps to L3 and E3 at Google and Meta respectively, so probably not. Returning interns at FAANG are also leveled at L3/E3. It'd be very unfair otherwise. At Meta, fresh Masters grads without working experience are also levelled at E3. Fresh PhDs grads will get E4.

Don't think it'll be easy/possible. Masters typically starts at 1-2 and PhD 2-1.

X·Ex-ByteDance intern here. Doubt you can suddenly 'jump' to 2-1, which is like Senior SWE. I saw people who get promoted to this after 1 year in the company though. Fresh Grads (returning interns too) definitely start at 1-2
