Is it a red flag that my company promotes someone obviously less qualified? I joined my current company three years ago right after graduation. I later found out that a coursemate of mine joined the same company in the different team. I was at first a little surprised we were hired for the same role because from the last time I chatted with him in year 4, he couldn’t have graduated above second-class upper. (I knew that because he was really proud of the fact that every mod he took averages around B/B+ while he boast about how he only study the day before midterms.) i was never close to him because I am someone who works hard for my future and my FCH. I just completely my performance review, which is in the beginning of the year for my company. At this point, I kept seeing my coursemate around but we barely spoke more than five full conversations. He was always seen joking around with his teammates, but never seem to be doing important work. Few days ago, I received news that the guy is being promoted to lead his team. It make me almost quit on the spot that day. You can tell from his grades that he probably don’t know what he’s doing and is not a hardworker. I think the only reason he was promoted was because he is close with his teammates, especially his ex-boss who left the company. This made me extra angry because during my performance review with my boss, he told me that the work I was producing above expectations and I was sabotaged by my peer reviews. I was unlucky to be cursed with useless teammates who have never stay a single minute after 6, while I had to eat at my desk while doing work to carry this team. It’s like uni projects all over again. It pisses me off even more they have the damn audacity to say I lack teamwork when I did half of the work produced by this team. It seems to me at this point that this company obvious doesn’t care about talents or hard work, and they only value those who angkat people’s bola. I wanted to leave, but it feels like a huge sunk cost for all the weekends I burned for this company. The job market is absolutely horrible right now. Signz.. maybe I should just learning how to be a snake too.
