It's kinda obvious that there has been a significant increase in people rushing out during the holidays even when it's just 3 official weekends then to stay for the local Ph or even national celebration. From beginning of the week, Managers and colleagues from the same office and dept and some from another company in the building that we all knew as smoke buddies spoke of having taken 2 more days of AL on top of the 3 weekends and even with some saying that it's pointless staying put or cheering to stay for the national holidays. Even had some with xeno-remarks along the lines of "worthless celebrations and not worth celebrating the foreigners here etc some of the foreign workers around who were smoking as well were also laughing saying and jabbing in saying that they have invaded us yadayada... Amazing reaction for the kind of reverse take ins on the joke jabs for those remarks by the foreign workers (Bitchings during smoke breaks together is usually where we get to crap such non work stuffs and i usually only chat up abit but am more the kind that listen and catch infos than talk). Of course, deep down, i too wanted to leave for the holidays as well, but i was always kinda too late/slow to apply or react to taking leaves or to extend the holidays and what not so i l had to suck it up and worked till Thursday evening - like a good boy scout. Tried to go into Msia on the evening of Thursday but made a U-Turn as it was really jammed up by that evening and was just not up for the braving and packing it in the queue... so I did a U-turn somewhere along the stretch before it was too late, (i wasn't the only one that bailed the jammed, there were also some others in the queue like me that bailed out honestly it was messy, truthfully... just another aimless weekend going on rinse repeat.) Back home after a disappointing useless attempt in getting out for the weekend and smoking off the "sian" feelings after parking, I looked up at the blocks around my estate (40 years and more here now) and realized that indeed, the number of flags per unit that were put up from yesteryears have really, greatly reduced. Thought about the convos at the smoking area with the smoking buddies and colleagues from earlier in the week, it seems true the increase of people that are not about the local celebrations anymore... and the xeno-remarks on the worthless celebration coincided.... especially when you also know through social media that you really have ex-schoolmates / classmates who have left for good from here for places such as Thai/ Aus/ Japan and even Shanghai... and even the peers who are still around that leaves the country without fail every single local PH. Probably time to be more reactive to earlier leaves taking and or look for alternatives of routes in my remaining days.
